Immigrant Stories invites immigrants, refugees, and their families to create digital stories about their experiences and preserves each story in the Archives. Digital stories are short personal narratives created by participants using a combination of video, images, audio, and text. Each Immigrant Story centers around an object that helps tell an individual's migration story. The result is a brief digital video that can be shared with researchers, teachers, students, and the public.
The IHRC will preserve all Immigrant Stories as part of its archival collections. During 2014-2015, IHRC staff will also be working to make all digital stories discoverable through the University of Minnesota Libraries and the Digital Public Library of America. The public will be able to view Immigrant Stories alongside other material from the IHRC's rich archives and the collections of libraries, archives, and museums across the United States.
