Christ Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Church came into being on June 18, 1972, by separating itself from the Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Church of Minneapolis and Saint Paul on 17th Avenue South in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Initially, the congregation rented worship facilities from Lebanon Lutheran Church on East 36th Street in Minneapolis, later it moved to Saint Luke's Lutheran Church on 17th Avenue South in Minneapolis. The parsonge and church office was established at 4025 Chowen Avenue South in Minneapolis, the official address of the congregation. Since its beginnings the congregation was active in building relationships with other churches and also in supporting the cause of freedom for Latvia. Rev. Dr. M.K. Gulbis served as the first and only pastor during the entire existence of the church which discontinued its functions in 2003 and the majority of the remaining membership joined the Minneapolis-St. Paul Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Church.
