Mart Niklus was born on September 22, 1934 in Tartu, Estonia. Mart Niklus graduated from Tartu University (ornithology) in 1957. One of the most courageous human rights activists in Estonia. Jailed as a political prisoner and dissident during the Soviet regime in 1958-66, 1976, and 1980-88. Member of Amnesty International and the Estonian Wildlife Fund. Elected to be member of the Estonian parliament (1992-1995).

Mart Niklus syndis 22.septembril 1934 Tartus. Omandas ornitoloogi eriala Tartu ylikoolis 1957. aastal. Eesti julgemaid inim6iguste aktiviste. N6ukogude okupatsiooni ajal veetis 1958-66, 1976, 1980-88 aastad poliitvangis dissidendina. Amnesty International liige. Valitud Eesti parlamenti 1992-1995.
