Heimo (Hal) A. Loya (1909-1989) was born in Rock Springs, Wyoming. During his youth he studied the violin. In 1936 Loya joined Monmouth College of Monmouth, Illinois as a music instructor, eventually becoming chairman of the music department, a position he served in for more than 20 years.
