Abstract: Laura Riippa's papers consist of genealogical study on Riippa family encompassing the period from 1764 to 1929, five scrapbooks containing newspaper clippings from Finnish newspapers from August 1939 to January 1940 pertaining to events in the World War II, and obituaries about Timo Riippa, Laura's son (d. 1998).

HISTORICAL SKETCH

Laura Johanna Riippa (Launes), born in 1912 in Helsinki, Finland, was wife of Edward Riippa, an organist and cantor born in Astoria, Oregon (1906-1970). Edward studied music and worked in Finland during the 1930s and early 1940s, and the couple got married in 1938 in Helsinki. Son Timo was born in 1944, and the family moved to Astoria in 1947.
