Laura Johanna Riippa (Launes), born in 1912 in Helsinki, Finland, was wife of Edward Riippa, an organist and cantor born in Astoria, Oregon (1906-1970). Edward studied music and worked in Finland during the 1930s and early 1940s, and the couple got married in 1938 in Helsinki. Son Timo was born in 1944, and the family moved to Astoria in 1947.
