Einar Saarela (b. 1909 in Bisbee, Arizona) is a son of Finnish immigrants. His father, Elis Saarela (b. 1884 in Jalasjarvi, Finland) emigrated to the United States at the age of 17. He got married with Aina Torvinen (b. 1886 in Puolanka, Finland) in Bisbee, Arizona. Elis Saarela worked as a miner until his death in 1917. After that, the family moved to New York Mills, Minnesota.
